Builds/Abyss Chaser

From WeeklyRO Wiki

Abyss Chaser is the 4th job of the Shadow Chaser (Rogue → Stalker → Shadow Chaser → Abyss Chaser). It is a flexible class with three skill sets: bow shots that scale with CON, dagger melee that scales with POW, and abyss magic that scales with SPL.

These builds are advice, based on how skills are calculated on WeeklyRO. They are a good starting point, not the only way to play. Skill formulas can change with server updates. Stat and skill resets are cheap at the Reset Girl, so feel free to experiment.

At a glance

Role Ranged or magic area damage, solo leveling
Weapons Bow (shots), dagger or one-handed sword (melee and magic)

Key 4th-job skills

Strip Shadow's RES/MRES reduction and the Abyss Square auto-cast chance under From The Abyss are marked as unconfirmed in the server code and may change in a future update. Numbers are at max skill level. All damage skills scale with base level.

Hit and Sliding is the key to bow and melee play. Its Chasing buff lasts 60 seconds and greatly boosts Chain Reaction Shot, Chasing Shot, Chasing Break and Unlucky Rush (Unlucky Rush gets +12,500% while Chasing). Abyss Slayer needs Abyss Dagger 5 and Deft Stab 5, and Abyss Dagger needs Fatal Menace 5 from Shadow Chaser. Magic Sword Mastery needs Auto Shadow Spell 5 and Reproduce 5 from Shadow Chaser.

You get one skill point per job level, about 59 points by job 60. The full tree costs 110, so pick one style.

Build: Bow (leveling)

The easiest way to level. Big area damage from a distance.

Stats
DEX 130, AGI 120, VIT 90, INT 70, rest LUK. This fits in the stat points you have at base 200.
Traits
First 40 points: CON. Chain Reaction Shot and Frenzy Shot get 15% per CON, and CON also adds P.ATK and HIT. Then keep adding CON to about 60–70 and start STA for survival. Your job bonus gives +9 POW, +8 SPL, +8 STA, +6 CRT, +5 CON and +4 WIS at job 60.
Skills to max first
Dagger and Bow Mastery 10, Chain Reaction Shot 5, Frenzy Shot 10, Hit and Sliding 5, Chasing Shot 5, then Abyss Dagger 5, Deft Stab 5 and Abyss Slayer 10 for the buff. Spend leftover points on Strip Shadow or Unlucky Rush.
Playing it
Keep Abyss Slayer up. Use Hit and Sliding on the first monster to get Chasing, then Chain Reaction Shot into groups and Frenzy Shot on whatever survives. Carry plenty of arrows: Chain Reaction Shot uses 7 per cast.

Build: Abyss magic

A magic Abyss Chaser that fights with a dagger. Good for players who like casting and auto-attacking.

Stats
INT 130, AGI 110, DEX 110, VIT 80, rest LUK. AGI matters because From The Abyss works off your normal attacks.
Traits
SPL first (Abyss Flame and Omega Abyss Strike get 10% per SPL). After about 50 SPL, add CON (S.MATK and HIT) and some WIS/STA.
Skills to max first
Magic Sword Mastery 10, From The Abyss 5, Abyss Square 5, Abyss Flame 5, Omega Abyss Strike 10, then Dagger and Bow Mastery 5, Abyss Dagger 5 and Deft Stab 5 to unlock Abyss Slayer (Lv 9 with the points left).
Playing it
Turn on From The Abyss and Abyss Slayer and auto-attack: spheres and free Abyss Squares fire on their own. Stand inside your Abyss Square for double hits. Use Omega Abyss Strike on big groups when you have time to cast.

Before 4th job (base 99–200)

As a Shadow Chaser, level with Triangle Shot (bow): 230% per level + 3% per AGI, ×base level/100, so DEX and AGI both help. With a dagger, Fatal Menace hits a 5×5 area (120% per level + AGI) and gets one extra hit with a dagger. Most players level with a bow and switch builds at 200 if they want the magic build, using the Reset Girl (both resets 9,000z).

Tips

  • Neutral damage (Abyss Square, From The Abyss) does only 50% to Ghost 3 monsters such as Powerful Spell in the 2nd Power Plant. Use Abyss Flame (Fire) there.
  • Use elemental arrows against the matching weakness, for example Fire arrows on Earth monsters.
  • The Varmundt's Mansion maps (Lost Farm Valley, Tartaros Storage) and Rudus Dungeon 2–3 have the big groups that Chain Reaction Shot needs. See the Leveling Guide.
  • Strip Shadow strips shadow gear, and on monsters it also lowers RES and MRES.
  • Resets are cheap, so it's fine to try all three styles.
